Is VCDS coding genuinely needed on my Volkswagen?
If your VW rolled off the line from roughly 2013 on the MQB or MLB platform with start-stop, then yes. A VCDS session (or an equivalent VAG tool) has to load the fresh battery's serial number and capacity into module 19.
Where does the battery sit on a Passat, CC, Phaeton, Teramont or Touareg?
On these larger VWs the main battery is tucked beneath the boot floor, while a positive jump post stays up in the engine bay for boosting.
Can you swap the 12V auxiliary battery in an ID.4 or ID.5?
Absolutely. The ID.4 and ID.5 each carry an ordinary 12V AGM that runs the body electronics, lights and safety systems alongside the big high-voltage traction pack. We work on the 12V battery only and never go near the HV side.
Do I really need AGM, or will a normal flooded battery do?
Every start-stop Volkswagen — which is all the current petrol and diesel MQB/MLB cars — needs AGM. A cheaper flooded battery might save a few dirhams today, but the constant start-stop cycling in Dubai's heat usually kills it inside 8 to 12 months.
How long does a Volkswagen battery change take at my office in Business Bay?
Usually about 30 to 40 minutes once we arrive. Allow a little longer for the boot-mounted batteries in the Passat, CC, Phaeton, Teramont or Touareg, since the trim panels and jack kit have to come out first.
