What Makes Toyota Batteries Different
Toyota sticks to sensible, serviceable engineering. The vast majority of petrol Toyotas sold in the UAE use standard flooded lead-acid or EFB batteries — no BMS coding, no parasitic drain traps, no boot-mounted surprises. Battery access on a Corolla or Camry is a five-minute job for any competent technician; terminals are front-mounted with standard SAE posts, and there is almost always a clear hold-down bracket rather than a welded cage.
The exceptions are the hybrids. The Prius, Camry Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid all run an AGM 12V auxiliary battery — typically an S46B24R or LN1 AGM — sited in the boot or rear wheel well. It is not the traction battery; it runs the computers that boot the hybrid system. When it fails the car will not "click" at you, it will simply refuse to power up. After replacement, the hybrid ECU needs a reset via OBD to clear the ready-charge fault codes. We carry the correct tool and perform this before we close the boot.
Typical OEM sizes you will encounter: 46B24L or 55B24L on Corolla and 4-cyl Camry (45-60Ah), 80D26L on V6 Camry and RAV4 (70Ah), 105D31L on Land Cruiser, Prado and Hilux diesel (90-100Ah), and the AGM S46B24R on Prius. GCC-spec cars ship with Japanese post notation (L/R) — the last digit tells you the positive terminal side. Fit the wrong orientation and cables will not reach.
One thing worth knowing: Land Cruiser owners in Al Quoz and Mirdif call us more than any other Toyota. The 105D31L sits deep in the engine bay and most quick-fit shops don't stock it. We do — a van is typically dispatched within 25 minutes.
