What Sets Mazda Batteries Apart
Few Japanese brands run as many battery strategies as Mazda, largely because the range stretches from a 1.5-litre Mazda 2 all the way to the turbocharged, three-row CX-90. Larger older crossovers such as the CX-9 carry a heavy flooded 105D31 case with the positive post on the right, whereas newer SkyActiv models switched to compact DIN sizing. The clever bit is i-stop and i-ELOOP: Mazda pairs a high-spec EFB or AGM starter battery with capacitor-based brake-energy recovery, so the cell has to match the exact i-stop rating or the system shuts itself off and flags a charging fault.
On the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 saloons you get a front-mounted DIN66/80 cell with a proper hold-down bar, which makes for a tidy five-minute swap. The CX-5 T32 (2014-2020) works the same way, but the T33 Start-Stop built from 2020 onwards insists on an EFB or AGM H6; drop in a plain flooded battery and the start-stop logic quietly disables itself within a few weeks. Mazda needs no BMS coding step — the charging system relearns capacity on its own.
The MX-5 and the turbocharged Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 do best on high-CCA AGM cells that shrug off the short trips and fierce heat of a Dubai summer. As a rough sizing guide: DIN55 on the Mazda 2, DIN66 on the Mazda 6 and petrol CX-5, AGM H6 on the CX-5 Start-Stop, 105D31 on the CX-90, and AGM H7 on the MX-5.

Which battery fits a Mazda CX-90?
The CX-90 normally runs a T110 / 105D31R cell of about 90-100Ah with 800+ CCA — plenty of cranking reserve for a large SkyActiv petrol.
Can my CX-5 Start-Stop take an ordinary battery?
No — a 2020-onwards CX-5 (T32/T33) with start-stop is designed around an EFB battery. Fit a plain flooded cell and it usually fades within six to twelve months, at which point start-stop switches itself off.
My Mazda 6 battery only lasted two years in Dubai — why?
It comes down to heat. Gulf summers age a standard flooded battery well ahead of the maker's rated life. Move up to a silver-calcium or AGM-grade cell with strong vibration resistance — a Bosch S5A or Amaron Pro — and you'll realistically get four to five years in Dubai.
Can you fit AGM batteries for the MX-5 and turbo Mazdas on-site?
